Abstract
Superconducting properties and microstructural evolution of Li doped Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O x with nominal composition of Bi 2Sr 2Ca(Cu 1− y Li y ) 2O x and Bi 2+ z Sr 2CaCu 2Li y O x were studied T c, zero increased by 10 K from undoped Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O x to 94.1 K, and T c, onset > 100 K was observed. Li doped Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O x systems exhibit a similar phase formation sequence as undoped Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O x but at significantly lower temperatures. The liquid phase formed at lower temperatures in Li doped materials promotes the formation and growth of the 2212 phase. Four factors indicate that Li partially substituted for Cu in 2212 while it also resided interstitially and/or in non-superconducting phases: the existence of Cu free phases in Bi 2Sr 2Ca(Cu 1− y Li y ) 2O x , the presence of CuO phases in Bi 2+ z Sr 2CaCu 2Li y O x , EDX measurements, and NMR results.
