Abstract

We propose a systematic method for deducing manifestly world-volume supersymmetric (gauge-fixed) actions of super p-branes from field theories exhibiting the phenomenon of partial breaking of global supersymmetry (PBGS). The method is based upon a substitution of the superspace coordinates which relates linear and nonlinear realizations of PBGS. As illustrations we consider the d = 2 superparticle ( p = 0) and d = 4 supermembrane ( p = 2). The corresponding world-line and world-volume superfield actions are consistently derived as a long-wavelength limit of the superfield actions of some two- and four-dimensional supersymmetric field theories possessing soliton solutions.
