Abstract

In advanced and highly automated manufacturing systems there is an increasing need for efficient distribution of accurate and instant information. A theoretical framework based on human supervisory control modeling, situation awareness, and the SRK taxonomy for human behavior has been combined with empirical studies to specify criteria for a wearable information system targeted at manufacturing system operators. A laboratory prototype of the "Super Operator" has been developed, providing multiple information channels, wireless connection to the internet, 3D-navigation in a virtual-reality model of the work-space, on-line machine manuals, error lists, decision support, etc.
