Abstract

Tape stripping was combined with spectrophotometric assays to determine recovery of sunscreens from the stratum corneum of Mexican hairless dogs. Escalol 506 and PABA were applied in alcoholic vehicles and recovery was determined from tape strippings taken on washed or unwashed sites. More Escalol 506 was recoverable under all conditions. Several commercially available sunscreen products were also tested. The Mexican hairless dog appears to be a useful model for laboratory tests on sunscreens which can be assayed in the stratum corneum.
