Abstract

The motivation to take this theme is colorful variant of phenomenon called “The Miracle of the sun” and attempt to partial explanation of an experimental model. The matter of this work is analysis of phenomenon of dispersion of white light in cuboidal crystal as a result of total internal reflection. Unlike commonly known dispersion of light in a prism, results presented in this case study are subtle, however accessible to observe and measure with simple methods. In specific cases of position and dimensions of cuboidal crystals, hue of light changes into red or blue, as a result of vanishing of the rest part of spectrum. Theoretical analysis is supported by results of an experiment, that is presented in chapter IV. Despite simplicity of the phenomenon, its observation and specification could become a foundation for further analysis of spectacular effects of phenomenon called “The Miracle of the sun”.
