Thankfully, Rabbit has eggs, and Moonbear has milk, but Cat's morning devolves into chaos as Rabbit nearly drops the eggs, Moonbear slips on a carrot, and Rabbit explodes a flour bag. Cat remains patient, however, and everyone soon joins in the baking with their strengths. Their teamwork produces some yummy—if a bit lumpy—results and a post-breakfast nap closes out a chaotic but delicious morning. Cat is a forgiving pal who helps her friends through their mistakes rather than getting frustrated, and the amiable feline serves as an aspirational (if a bit unrealistic) behavioral model for kiddos negotiating how to work together. The art is the star of the show here as Tatsukawa's handmade textures create an overarching softness complemented by a soothing, pastel color palette, and stippling lends the scenes depth and liveliness. This picture book is brimming with mouthwatering, fluffy flapjacks, and adults should be prepared to utilize the recipe at the back of the book after reading it (regardless of the time of day).
