Abstract

Obesity is increasingly prevalent worldwide and has become a growing concern in the general population. Many studies have shown that obesity is a major cause of metabolic diseases and is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Accordingly, weight reduction has long been considered as a preventive strategy to reduce CV risk in obese individuals. However, it is uncertain whether weight reduction can actually prevent the development of CVD. Thus, we analyzed the association between weight reduction and development of CVD in the general population using database from a large-scale prospective cohort of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES).
