Abstract

Malignant hypertensive nephrosclerosis develops in some but not all cases of severe hypertension; the underlying molecular mechanisms are not clear. We compared gene expression in renovascular hypertensive rats which developed malignant hypertensive nephrosclerosis with gene expression in rats which were hypertensive but did not develop malignant nephrosclerosis. Further, we investigated the potential role of one candidate molecule identified from our gene expression screen, Interleukin-11 (IL-11).
