Abstract

End-stage kidney disease is associated with high symptom burden and high rates of malnutrition resulting in increased morbidity and mortality. In New South Wales public renal services, Renal Supportive Care (RSC) is offered to patients with end-stage kidney disease choosing a conservative (non-dialysis) pathway and for those receiving renal replacement therapies (RRT) (e.g. haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation) and suffering a significant symptom burden. Currently, no Australian data exists to describe the nutritional status of patients receiving RSC services and its relationship with nutrition-impact symptom severity.
