Abstract
SUMMARY The external morphology of summer shoot production in young Pinus elliottii Engelm. var. elliottii L. & D. is described. Phases of the cycle are classified in relation to bud formation, bud flushing and secondary needle elongation. The rate of shoot elongation within each phase of the cycle is detailed and the pattern of transition from the cycle to a resting bud described.
