Abstract

The Advanced Study Program of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, offers a limited number of summer fellowships to women and minority students enrolled in colleges and universities. The fellowships are intended to enable students to become familiar with atmospheric sciences as a field of scientific research and as a profession. Also, the fellowships serve to acquaint the students with the facilities and activities of a national laboratory. It is hoped that through their experiences these students will find atmospheric sciences sufficiently interesting and challenging to pursue graduate studies in that field. NCAR does not intend the program to be a means of recruiting personnel to meet its operational needs but, rather, a means to foster in the participants a permanent interest in the atmospheric sciences.
