Abstract

In 1972 the Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) set up an expert group on play for children in hospital in response from hospital authorities for guidance. Following publication of the report of the expert group, the DHSS has recommended that hospitals where children are admitted as patients should recognize their need for play and make the best arrangements possible within the limits of existing resources to meet this need.
