Abstract

If a flaw is detected in a component, an assessment is needed to know why the flaw occurred, how long the component life is remained, and whether the flaw should be removed to use the component or not. Consensus assessment on damage and failure analyses is required for utilities. Codes and standards for fitness-for-service (FFS) flaw assessment were published in the various industrial fields in many countries. It is useful for engineers to understand the flaw assessment procedures from these codes and standards or guidelines and follow new developments. This paper briefly describes codes and standards for FFS on flaw evaluation rules in the world.
