Abstract

This article introduces a homeless man whose personal qualities and personal history compel the memory. He was a client within the shelter system of New York City for several years; the material presented here is an account of his visits with a team of health-care workers in an on-site shelter clinic, as recorded in the medical chart. His story unfolds as a series of moments, now connected in retrospect after his life of 39 years has ended.
