Abstract

Summary The author demonstrates the existence in the Gulf of Cagliari of two different forms of the sexual state of the Hydroid Campanularia caliculata Hincks: one, as a free planetonic medusa (Agastra mira), the other as a medusoid or a sexil sporosac. The forms live in different ecological niches. They arc therefore considered by the author as ecotipical variations of a single species. The Agustra mira is regarded as synonymous. with the Behner's Agastra rubra of Naples and the problem of the Allogony is looked upon in accordance with the modern concepts of the ecological variability in the Hydroids.
