Sulfur and chlorine K-shell x-ray absorption spectra of SCl 2, S 2Cl 2, SOCl 2, and SO 2Cl 2

Abstract

The X-ray absorption spectra of dichlorosulfide (SCl 2), dichlorodisulfide (S 2Cl 2), thionyl chloride (SOCl 2) and sulfuryl chloride (SO 2Cl 2) have been recorded with synchrotron radiation in the regions of S 1s and Cl 1s excitation and ionization. Ionization current spectra of SOCl 2 and SO 2Cl 2 in the Cl 1s regions are also presented. The main spectral features are assigned to K-shell excitations to σ * orbitals associated with the SCl, SS and SO bonds in these molecules.
