Abstract

Abstract This essay offers a preliminary presentation of a newly discovered dossier of documents produced by the Roman Inquisition during the persecution of the Portuguese Jews living in Ancona in 1555–1556. The essay contextualizes the documents within the archive that currently holds them and attempts to explain how they ended up in Ravenna; it also identifies some of the most striking novelties contributed by these recently found documents to our knowledge of events.
