Abstract
[On fr. 49 Dg. (= 40 W.) by Hipponax] In the past many editors have emended the text of Hipponax’s fr. 49 Dg. (= 40 W.) with the aim of solving the problems it raises, also from a syntactical point of view. The present study, on the contrary, not only tries to prove that the text as given by Tzetzes’s manuscripts can be preserved, but also argues that the syntax is absolutely regular or rather elaborate so as to provide a comic effect together with the words used by the poet.
