Abstract
Suitability evaluation of sea area utilization is a key process in marine functional zoning. Evaluation focused on sea area conditions is facing the challenges from rapid social economic development. This article discussed the challenges of suitability evaluation of sea area utilization, provided a conception of suitability evaluation of sea area utilization in the land sea integration strategy, and pointed out the key steps to achieve it. It was concluded that current suitability evaluations of sea area utilization were facing the challenges of serious deterioration of coastal water environment, changing social economic conditions on land and achieving goals of ecosystem management. Suitability evaluation of sea area utilization in the land sea integration strategy is a good practice to solve these problems. Land sea integration zones and spatial distribution simulation of social economic factors are key steps of suitability evaluation of sea area utilization in the land sea integration strategy.
