Abstract

This descriptive and correlational study aimed to identify and characterize the rates of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among adolescents enrolled in high school in a city in the state of Paraná, in addition to correlating them with risk factors. Using the Brazilian Youth Questionnaire, applied to 1,626 adolescents aged between 14 and 18, the relationship between suicidal ideation and suicide attempts and intra-family violence, drug use, sexual abuse, anxiety, and depression was analyzed. The figures found were significant and, for the most part, higher than those found in other studies. Most of the ideations and attempts were made by females. There is also a significant correlation between suicidal ideation and attempts and intrafamily violence, anxiety, and depression.
