Abstract

Three criteria are suggested to help design a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) that would have a better chance of being successfully deployed in a clinical environment. These criteria have been successfully applied to a CDSS designed to estimate outcomes for neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients. The CDSS was deployed in a pilot study at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)'s NICU. The results of the study showed that the accuracy was deemed acceptable by the physicians and the CDSS would meet their expectations when ready for deployment in a clinical environment.
