Abstract

Sugarcane transplanting has potential for reducing sugarcane planting costs and increasing sugar revenue. Conventional planting costs are documented so transplanting can be compared from an economic perspective. A full description of transplanting procedures used at one Hawaiian sugar company is given. Several sugarcane transplanting operations are appropriate for automation. Machine vision is being applied to the robotic production of sugarcane propagules.
