Abstract

Introduction: At present, little is known about the effects of dietary carbohydrate composition on the development and progression of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and heart failure (HF) in hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of carbohydrate composition of on the development of structural, functional, and metabolic characteristics of the heart in mice subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC). Hypothesis: Increased consumption of sugar would lead to an accelerated hypertrophic response and progression to left ventricular dilation and systolic dysfunction.
