Abstract
In the context of adaptive identification and adaptive control of linear systems the concept of a sufficiently exciting input play a key role. In this note necessary and sufficient conditions are presented for an input function of a single-input, linear, stationary system to be sufficiently exciting. These conditions are independent of the stability properties of the linear system.
