Abstract

Introduction: Sudden unexpected postnatal collapse (SUPC) is a new neonatal clinical entity recently characterized by investigators in France, German, Australia and in the United States. The definition by Becher et al includes: (1) an infant born >37 weeks gestation at birth, (2) with an apgar score of >8 at 5 minutes, (3) who has a clinical collapse within 12 hours of birth in the hospital, (4) requires resuscitation with positive pressure ventilation, (5) requires ongoing intensive care or dies (1).
