Abstract

It is critical that airport organisations operate productively given the limited resources, variety of responsibilities and capital-intensive infrastructure. No single resource is more important than human resources. A generation of people is reaching retirement age and it is imperative that organisations plan for this wave of retirement. The ability of organisations to remain competitive, provide quality customer service and meet increasing levels of performance is at risk. It is time to learn to ‘map’ organisations in relation to impending changes, to allow the formation of flexible organisational structures and employee development programmes that address current and forthcoming changes in the workplace.
