Abstract

Background: Intraoperative identification and surgical removal of non-palpable malignant lesions can be challenging, while insufficient removal can have far-reaching consequences. Preoperative placement of a magnetic marker (Sirius Pintuition®, Sirius Medical, Eindhoven, The Netherlands) can guide the surgeon towards the lesion(s) of interest. The CE-marked, non-ionizing magnetic marker is placed by the radiologist, guided by either ultrasound or computed-tomography (CT). The marker can be detected by the surgeon in a range of 50 mm, using a detection probe.
