Successful treatment of gallstone ileus with double-balloon enteroscopy-assisted electrohydraulic lithotripsy

Abstract

A 79-year-old male presented with a two-day history of obstipation and vomiting. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a small bowel obstruction with a 3.5 cm gallstone impacted in the mid-small bowel (Fig. 1A, arrow). The small bowel obstruction did not improve after three days of nasogastric tube decompression, therefore we performed double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE)-assisted electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL) for removal of the impacted stone.
