Abstract

Malignant phylloides tumor (MPT) of the breast is a rare entity, comprising less than 25 % of phylloides tumor. Histological hallmark is the presence of both stromal and epithelial elements. MPT’s usually spread by hematogenous route and are associated with 25 % incidence of distant metastasis, most common sites being lung (70–80 %), pleura (60–70 %), and bone (20–30 %). Risk of local and distant recurrence is determined by tumor biology. Very few cases (4) of successful resection of pulmonary metastasis of malignant phylloides tumor have been documented in the literature till date. To the best of our knowledge, we present a fifth case of successful resection of pulmonary metastatic of malignant phylloides tumor.
