Abstract

In a previous study, Van der Erst J. reviewed results obtained using cryopreserved mature human oocytes, including 83 pregnancies, 50 deliveries and ongoing pregnancies, and 63 children (Hum Reprod Update 2003; 9: 463-470). In 2001, we reported a human delivery that was achieved using the slow freezing method (SFM) with 1,2-propanediol (PROH) and mature oocytes (Jpn J Fertil Steril 2001; 46: 171-177). Most cryopreservation of mature human oocytes is performed using SFM. There have been around 10 reported cases of cryopreservation of mature human oocytes using vitrification methods.
