Abstract

King Cobra is a largest venomous snake in the world. An attempt was made to breed this snake in captivity as per the captive breeding program of Central Zoo Authority, India for the conservation of endangered species. Six male King cobras and four female King cobras were selected for the breeding program. These snakes were housed in a scientifically designed off-display facility. The snakes showed courtship behavior in March. The female kings built the nest from bamboo leaves and eggs were laid. The eggs were artificially incubated and hatched after 87 days.
