Abstract

Major Dorothy Simmons will retire from the Medical University of South Carolina after 33 years of service in June 2022. “I started as a state security officer [then the lowest rank at MUSC's campus safety program] on December 5th, 1988,” Simmons said. She will retire from MUSC as the second highest‐ranked officer in the department, as the patrol commander, and the first woman in the department's history to attain a major rank.
