Abstract

Osteotomy procedures have been proposed in the literature for correcting post-traumatic calcaneal deformities due to malunion. In all cases, however, proper articular reconstruction appears to be a very difficult matter owing to the frequent fragmentation and spatial displacement of the talus as a result of the malunion. An external minifixator can be used to perform the lengthening osteotomy and axial correction by means of the hemicallotasis procedure without the use of bone grafts. A subtalar osteotomy-calloclasis was performed in a case of malunion of a calcaneus fracture with horizontal collapse, with an intact articular surface presenting a total shift, with elevation and correction of the varus deformity of the articular surface by means of distraction using an external minifixator (Orthofix mini-D.A.F.) without apposition of bone grafts.
