Abstract

Abstract Substitution at the a position of chiral enolates is a large and important area of asymmetric synthesis, which has been thoroughly reviewed. This chapter is concerned mainly with the alkylation of enolates which are chiral by virtue of being attached to a chiral auxiliary (see Chapter 2) or an equivalent. Nevertheless the general principles involved can be extended to the reactions of other enolates as the concepts which are used to account for the stereoselectivity of alkylation of such enolates can be applied to the reactions of other enolates.
