Abstract

Mastocytosis is a spectrum of rare diseases characterized by mast cell accumulation in 1 or more organs. It is classified into the following 3 main groups: cutaneous mastocytosis; systemic mastocytosis (SM); and mast cell sarcoma.1 The following 5 major SM variants have been defined: indolent SM, smoldering SM (SSM), SM with an associated hematologic neoplasm, aggressive SM, and mast cell leukemia.
