Abstract

Swartz and Lamkins combined dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate (an ionic wetting agent), potassium hydroxide, and Parker's Super Quink permanent blue-black ink to form a simple, inexpensive stain which produced fewer artifacts and less damage to the microscope. 1 Aerosol OTB 1%, a product of American Cyanamid and Chemical Corporation, was used in the formula as a source of the dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate.
