Abstract

Swartz and Lamkins combined dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate (an ionic wetting agent), potassium hydroxide, and Parker's Super Quink permanent blue-black ink to form a simple, inexpensive stain which produced fewer artifacts and less damage to the microscope. 1 Aerosol OTB 1%, a product of American Cyanamid and Chemical Corporation, was used in the formula as a source of the dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate. Their 1 pharmacy stocked this material, but others may find that the wetting agent may be more easily secured from their pharmacies as a capsule intended for use as a laxative, Dioctyll Capsules (Person and Covey) or Doxinate (Lloyd Brothers). A 1% solution of the dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate can be made by putting one capsule of the laxative in 25 cc of distilled water. Edgar F.
