Abstract

Rigidity elements, which in many cases are installed to enhance the stability of structures where they are suspected not to be sufficiently rigid, do not always have a positive meaning. Often, local stresses occur at welding rings or other hardeners, which may exceed the stresses of the active loads. The article deals with the problems that occur during the operation of mine drums and gives their own explanation of their unsatisfactory work. The refining calculation of the drum shell, which is supported by the rings of rigidity is made, taking into account the location of the installation of the rings and their rigidity. The study enables to obtain a method for calculating local stresses that occur in the weld zone, taking into account the uneven load, the size of the drum and the rope, the coefficient of friction, the size and location of the rigidity rings, which proves the harmfulness of setting the rigidity elements on the drum shell.
