Abstract

ABSTRACT The rate of subsonic wind accretion (accretion on a point Newtonian mass moving through uniform gas) is shown to be independent of the wind velocity and equal to the spherical Bondi rate – for the adiabatic index equal to 5/3. A (very accurate) numerical calculation of the accretion flow, confirming this result, is also presented.
