Abstract

Subsea cables are widely used in electrical submersible pump (ESP) industry for offshore platforms. Two basic system configurations are subsea cables connected to line side and load side of variable frequency drives (VFD). Each configuration has its advantages and disadvantages. A comprehensive study is conducted in this paper for subsea cables application in ESP systems. Concerns such as parallel resonance, series resonance and motor starting related to each configuration are investigated. Considerations and recommendations are proposed for an optimized system design.
