W. ; Lynch, D. K. ; Cudaback, D. Abstract Submillimeter continuum emission from a 40 x 25 arcmin portion of L 1641 containing the Orion Nebula has been mapped at 400 microns with 3.0 arcmin resolution. The observed submillimeter radiation is produced by thermal emission from dust associated with the well-studied molecular clouds in this region. The dust column densities derived from the submillimeter observations show that L 1641 contains a dense core oriented north-south and about 30 x 5 arcmin in extent. The submillimeter continuum observations are compared with molecular line emission observations to obtain additional information about the structure of the region and about the properties of the dust.
