This study was conducted to evaluate the potentials of Jatropha seed cake as a substrate for the production of itaconic acid by Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus terreus
Summary
Large amount of wastes are generated every year from the processing of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as animal feed or burned as alternative for elimination. Such wastes usually have a composition rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and they should not be considered “wastes” but raw materials for other industrial processes. Filamentous fungi are well known for their ability to degrade lignocellulosic biomass They have the ability to convert the products of the biomass degradation into value added products such as various organic acids and biofuels (Liaud et al, 2014)
