Abstract

The technic of using a submandibular flap for resection of intraoral neoplasms, especially those in the anterior oral cavity, has been presented. Adequate exposure is obtained without division of the chin or lip. Resection of anterior lesions of the floor of mouth, tongue, gingiva, and mandible plus bilateral suprahyoid dissection or ipsilateral neck dissection can be accomplished with facility. This approach is used sparingly for tumors arising in the posterior oral cavity. Cosmetic results have been very good and functional results have been improved.
