Abstract

The tetrad test is becoming increasingly popular in sensory science where it is providing an alternative to the triangle and duo-trio tests. This chapter explains the reasons behind the increased use of the tetrad when testing for both similarity and for difference. There is an explanation of how to set up the test; a description of the correct test instruction with an example questionnaire; a discussion of how to select the number and type of assessors to meet the objective; and an explanation of how to analyze and report the results. All of these issues are illustrated in a case study taken from the laundry care sector.
