Abstract
Granular Ag–M alloys (M=Fe and Co) have been prepared by the gas-flow condensation technique, which involves co evaporation of the metals in continuous gas flow. The average grain size, determined from XRD data, increases from 7 to 16 nm for M=Fe and from 11 to 23 nm for M=Co, respectively, with increasing He-gas pressure. The XRD data have been confirmed by nitrogen adsorption measurements which revealed a decrease of the surface area with increasing pressure. The TEM analysis revealed the presence of isolated magnetic grains surrounded by Ag particles without alloying. Preliminary electrical measurements (at room temperature and in a magnetic field of 1.5 T) showed a decrease of the resistance variation with increasing He-gas pressure.
