Abstract

SummaryRegional anaesthesia is not recommended in patients with haemorrhagic shock. This case report aims to raise awareness amongst anaesthetists that regional anaesthesia should be considered in selected cases of moderate haemorrhagic shock. We describe the use of an isolated sciatic nerve block in a morbidly obese patient, with moderate haemorrhagic shock due to arterial bleeding in the popliteal region. A subgluteal approach under real‐time ultrasound guidance, together with the use of peripheral nerve stimulation, aided rapid placement and onset of the regional anaesthesia block.
