Abstract

This introduction provides an overview of research presented at the Symposium on Subglacial Processes, Sediments and Landforms held at the University of Ulster, July 1992. Particular attention is focused on new developments in understanding the subglacial environment and elaboration of current controversies concerning the formation of subglacial landforms. Elements from the symposium show how the use of sediment-dynamic principles offers new ways to examine subglacial sediment-landform associations and how this sedimentary context is expressed in terms of ice sheet activity.
