Abstract

Periodic structures have found wide applications in electromagnetic engineering, and hence the accurate analysis of the periodic structure has become important. We propose a new sub-entire-domain (SED) basis function method to analyze accurately large-scale periodic structures with finite sizes. The new basis function is defined on the support of each single cell of the periodic structure. Different from other entire-domain basis function methods (Suter, E. and Mosig, J., 2000; Yeo, J. et al., 2003; Prakash, V.V.S. and Mittra, R., 2003), the mutual coupling effects are considered in each single basis function by using dummy cells. After introducing the dummy cells, the real physics of the SED basis function is captured accurately by solving a small-size problem. Using the new method, the original large-scale problem is decomposed into two small-size problems. Numerical results are given to illustrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed method.
