Abstract

A 16-year-old girl presented with a 3-month history of progressive facial swelling and nasal obstruction (figure A). She had a previous history of taking multiple antibiotic courses over this period. The swelling was firm and non-tender. The overlying skin was indurated, and the induration was present beyond the swelling. There was no local increase in temperature. The patient had decreased sensation in the affected region. The bilateral nasal cavities were obliterated by the submucosal swelling. The radiology showed a subcutaneous lesion without well defined margins and there was no evident bony destruction. No similar lesions existed elsewhere. The haematological investigations did not indicate any associated comorbid illness.
