Abstract
1. 1. Protoplasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, prepared by the action of small digestive juice on whole cells, were fractionated by differential centrifugation after mechanical breakage. 2. 2. The subcellular fractions were characterized by their enzymic activities. 3. 3. The localizations of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarylCoA synthase (EC 4.1.3.5), acetoacetylCoA thiolase (acetylCoA: acetylCoA acetyltransferase, EC 2.3.1.9) and NAD kinase (ATP: NAD 2′-phosphotransferase, EC 2.7.1.23) have been determined 4. 4. All three enzymes were present in the cytoplasmic fraction: NAD kinase was also present in significant amounts in the mitochondria.
