Abstract
Collisions of heavy ions allow the exploration of the properties and dynamics of strongly interacting matter in the laboratory. Especially, the production of particles below their threshold energy in elementary reactions allows gaining new information on the production mechanisms in nuclear matter. Here we explore the production of multi‐strange hadrons and of charmed hadrons in the GSI/FAIR energy regime, that is at bombarding energies in the GeV region.
